THE PERFECT SUMMER DRINK

THE PAPER AIRPLANE

BY MEG REES FOOD STYLING BY RYAN MORROW

After working in an upscale food photography studio for a month and a half, I have been introduced to a variety of different foods and drinks that I had never heard of before. Being a college student, most of my diet consists of fast food and cheap drinks, so my pallet of food knowledge has drastically changed. A few weeks ago, I decided to photograph cocktails and other alcoholic beverages. My knowledge on alcohol is limited to Broney’s champagne slushies and El Tenampa margaritas, so learning how to make a Negroni, Aperol Spritz, and Paper Airplane blew my mind. These drinks might be on the more expensive side, but they are delicious classics everyone should try! After tasting each of the drinks, the Paper Airplane really spoke to me. Not only was it delicious, but it was also beautiful. If you like whiskey, this is a drink for you.

Ingredients:

  • ¾ oz. of bourbon

  • ¾ oz. of Aperol

  • ¾ oz. of Amaro Nonino

  • ¾ oz. of lemon juice

  • Ice

  • A glass

  • A shaker

  • Optional: Any type of garnish, to preference

    Instructions:

  • Add your preferred bourbon to a shaker (in my drink, I added Woodford Reserve).

  • Next, add Aperol, Amaro Nonino and lemon juice.

  • Shake all the ingredients with ice until the drink is well mixed and chilled.

  • Strain the drink into your glass of choice and enjoy!

    1. Optional: Add a dried blood orange and a dried lavender sprig as garnishes to make the drink more fun and flavorful.
