TOP 5 PATTERN COMBINATIONS

My obsession with mixing patterns has grown exponentially in recent months. In a world that has turned beige, I still enjoy mixing patterns to add a bit of whimsy back into my life as someone who does not subscribe to the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic.
1. Vertical and horizontal stripes
This combination will forever be my favorite. I believe stripes are one of the best patterns out there. They are so versatile and look good in any outfit. Stripes alone can be dressed up or down. They look great layered and are a great way to add visual appeal to an outfit. The power of mixing vertical and horizontal stripes is unmatched. My favorite way to execute this is with vertical-striped tights and a horizontal-striped top with any mini skirt or micro shorts.
2. Lace and polka dots
The resurgence of polka dots is my favorite fashion trend I have seen in recent years. I try to stick to my personal style and incorporate trends that mesh well with my closet to avoid being a part of the overconsumption of microtrends. With that being said, I will definitely be incorporating more polka dots into my closet. I adore the combination of lace and polka dots because it reminds me of the song “Cherry” by Lana Del Rey, especially when styled with pops of red.
3. Sequins and animal print
Sequins and animal print combined reminds me of the singer, Kesha. This pairing is perfect for going out and adding a bit of whimsy to an outfit. I am not an avid sequins-wearer but when I do, I like to go all out and style a fun look.
4. Big polka dots and small polka dots
I love combining the same patterns while also having some contrast between the two. When mixing different sized polka dots, it creates an optical illusion effect and makes the outfit more interesting to look at. I love when this is done in black and white, and it reminds me of when pop-art makeup was trending on Tumblr.
5. Stripes and polka dots
When I mix polka dots and stripes, I like to make it more subtle. I prefer to wear one of the patterns as socks or tights and to make the other the main focal point of the outfit. I find this allows one pattern to really pop while adding visual interest to the outfit.
